Dale Kent
Dale Kent took his first Qigong class in 1997 while living in a Zen Buddhist monastery in California. His curiosity about Qigong and Tai Chi arose out of an interest in Taoist thought but quickly evolved into a love for the embodied physicality of the practice. Qigong struck a chord with Dale as the perfect moving meditation to complement his daily sitting practice.
Dale began studying in earnest in 2007 after attending a week long medical qigong workshop at the YMAA retreat center with Dr Yang, Jwing-Ming. In addition to studying with Dr. Yang for many years, Dale has also studied with Mark Lord and Ben Lo (Cheng Man-Ching Lineage,) Liping Zhu (Swimming Dragon Tai Chi,) Lee Holden (medical Qigong,) and most recently Mark Small here at Dragon Phoenix.
In his 17 years of teaching, Dale’s primary interest has been in sharing gentle movements for maintaining health, establishing mind- body connection, and developing centered, grounded energy. In class, he leads people through simple sets of exercises that are adaptable to all ages and body types and can be practiced easily at home as well as in class. His current focus is on the Eight Pieces of Brocade, Five Animal Sports, and White Crane Qigong. Dale’s teaching style is relaxed, encouraging, and accepting; he hopes that people leave his classes feeling at once settled and energized
In addition to his Tai Chi / Qigong practice, Dale is an ordained Zen Buddhist priest, a vegetarian chef and cookbook author, an avid reader, guitar hobbyist and dog and cat lover.
