Chen Taijiquan, Qigong, applications, weapons, and
Daoist philosophy.
The Dragon Phoenix Online Academy gives students access to a structured curriculum in authentic Internal Chinese Martial Arts. Students begin with the foundations and gradually explore Qigong, Cheng Baguazhang, Chen Taijiquan, martial applications, solo drills, traditional weapons, and Daoist philosophy. The goal is not simply to collect movements. The goal is to understand the principles, body mechanics, training methods, and traditions that give these arts their depth.
Learn the Complete Art
Not just movements. Not just forms. A complete path of study.
Many people think of online martial arts training as simply watching videos and copying movements. The Dragon Phoenix Online Academy was built with a different purpose. Forms are important. They preserve the structure, principles, strategy, and body methods of the art. But forms are only one part of the training. Students in the Academy also study foundational body mechanics, Qigong, footwork, applications, solo drills, traditional weapons, training principles, and Daoist philosophy. The goal is to help students understand what they are practicing, why it matters, and how each part of the curriculum connects to the larger tradition. This is not a race to collect more material. It is a structured path for sincere students who want to study the Internal Arts with depth, patience, and respect.
Foundations & Internal Body Mechanics
Build the structure, coordination, and principles that support deeper training.
Every student in the Dragon Phoenix Online Academy begins with foundational training. These lessons help students develop the posture, alignment, balance, footwork, relaxation, coordination, and internal body mechanics that support deeper study in both Cheng Baguazhang and Chen Taijiquan. The foundations teach students how to stand, move, shift weight, coordinate the body, and begin developing a more connected relationship with their practice. These lessons may seem simple at first, but they are not something to rush past. They are the roots of the entire curriculum. As students continue into circle walking, silk reeling, forms, applications, drills, and weapons, they return again and again to the same essential principles: structure, relaxation, whole-body movement, balance, and internal connection. This is where the training begins.
Cheng Baguazhang
Circular footwork, changing angles, and martial strategy.
Cheng Baguazhang is one of the primary arts taught in the Dragon Phoenix Online Academy. Students begin by developing the foundational qualities needed for Bagua training: posture, stepping, balance, body connection, relaxation, turning, and whole-body coordination. From there, the curriculum introduces circle walking, turning methods, the Eight Turning Palms, the Eight Mother Palms, applications, drills, weapons, and deeper principles of movement and strategy. Cheng Baguazhang is known for its circular footwork, continuous movement, changing angles, and ability to adapt while remaining connected. Students learn how to move around the center, change direction, use the whole body, and understand the martial ideas preserved within the forms. The goal is not simply to memorize palm changes. The goal is to understand how Cheng Baguazhang teaches the body to move, change, and respond.
Chen Taijiquan
Silk reeling, rooted movement, and whole-body power.
Chen Taijiquan is one of the primary arts taught in the Dragon Phoenix Online Academy. Students begin by developing the foundational qualities needed for Taijiquan training: posture, alignment, balance, relaxation, coordination, rooted movement, and whole-body connection. From there, the curriculum introduces silk reeling exercises, Laojia Yilu, Laojia Erlu, applications, drills, weapons, and deeper principles of internal movement. Chen Taijiquan is known for its spiraling body mechanics, rooted stances, soft and explosive movement, and martial applications. Students learn how to coordinate the body, connect movement from the feet through the waist to the hands, and understand the practical meaning preserved within the forms. The goal is not simply to memorize routines. The goal is to understand how Chen Taijiquan develops structure, power, softness, intention, and whole-body movement.
Applications & Drills
Understanding the purpose behind the movement.
Forms are an important part of traditional martial arts training, but forms were never meant to be empty choreography. In the Dragon Phoenix Online Academy, applications and drills are taught throughout both the Cheng Baguazhang and Chen Taijiquan curriculum so that students can begin to understand what the movements mean and how they function. Applications help reveal the martial purpose hidden within the forms. Drills help students develop the body mechanics, footwork, timing, distance, structure, angles, and practical understanding needed to make those movements meaningful. This does not mean that students are expected to master fighting skills from videos alone. Hands-on training, partner work, and in-person correction remain deeply valuable. But online training can give students a strong foundation by helping them understand the principles, mechanics, and tactical ideas behind what they practice. The goal is not simply to memorize techniques. The goal is to understand how the art thinks.
Traditional Weapons
Extending the body. Refining the principles.
Weapons training is an important part of the traditional Chinese martial arts. In the Dragon Phoenix Online Academy, weapons are not treated as separate skills disconnected from the empty-hand curriculum. They are another way to develop the same principles found in Cheng Baguazhang and Chen Taijiquan. Training with weapons helps students refine posture, stepping, coordination, timing, distance, power, and intention. A weapon magnifies the way the body moves. If the body is disconnected, tense, or poorly aligned, the weapon will reveal it. If the body is coordinated, rooted, relaxed, and connected, the weapon begins to move as an extension of the whole body. Students may study traditional weapons such as the jian, dao, spear, guandao, and Baguazhang deer horn knives as part of the deeper curriculum. The goal is not simply to learn impressive weapon routines. The goal is to understand how weapons training deepens the empty-hand arts and reveals another layer of traditional martial practice.
Weapons training does not replace empty-hand training. It reveals it.
Daoist Philosophy
Study the principles behind the practice.
The Dragon Phoenix Online Academy also includes Daoist philosophy lectures for students who want to understand the deeper ideas that have influenced the Internal Chinese Martial Arts. These lectures are not meant to replace physical practice. They are meant to support it. Through the study of Daoist philosophy, Chinese martial culture, traditional training principles, and ideas of self-cultivation, students can begin to see the arts from a broader perspective. Concepts such as balance, change, softness, stillness, naturalness, patience, humility, and returning to simplicity all have practical meaning in training. They influence the way we move, the way we practice, the way we teach, and the way we continue learning over time. For some students, these lectures offer historical and cultural context. For others, they become a way to reflect more deeply on their own practice. The goal is not to turn martial arts into abstract theory. The goal is to understand the principles that give the arts their depth.
The physical path and the philosophical path support one another.

For students who train consistently and demonstrate the proper understanding, skill, character, and commitment, the Academy can also become a path toward instructor certification. Qualified students studying Cheng Style Baguazhang may also earn the opportunity to be considered for discipleship. These deeper opportunities are not automatic. They are earned through sincere practice, steady progress, personal conduct, and the development of real understanding. The goal is not simply to move through lessons. The goal is to grow as a student, practitioner, and, for those who are called to it, a future representative of the art.
Students who continue sincerely through the Dragon Phoenix Online Academy may also have the opportunity to work toward instructor certification. Certification is earned through demonstrated skill, understanding, consistency, and the ability to represent the material responsibly. For qualified students in Cheng Style Baguazhang, the Academy may also become a path toward traditional discipleship. Discipleship is not automatic or transactional; it is reserved for students who show dedication, character, love for the art, and a commitment to preserving the lineage. Those accepted as disciples are considered inner-door students and future lineage bearers, with the responsibility to continue learning, teaching, and helping the art carry forward.
