Book a Free Adult Trial Class

Begin with one class. Discover where the training can lead.

Trying a new martial art can feel intimidating, especially when you are not sure which class is right for you.

At Dragon Phoenix Kung Fu and Tai Chi, beginners are welcome to visit an adult curriculum class, meet the instructor, experience the training, and decide whether the program feels like a good fit.

Choose from Chen Tai Chi, Cheng Baguazhang, or Shuai Jiao and schedule your first class below.

Your first class is free. No prior experience is required.

Chen Tai Chi

Build a strong foundation through relaxed, coordinated movement.

Chen Tai Chi combines traditional martial training with posture, balance, breathing, body awareness, and whole-body movement.

Beginning students work with foundational exercises such as silk-reeling, standing practice, relaxation principles, and the opening movements of the traditional Chen family form.

Chen Tai Chi may be a good choice for you if you are interested in:

  • Improving balance, posture, and coordination

  • Developing greater body awareness

  • Learning a traditional internal martial art

  • Building strength without relying on tension

  • Practicing Tai Chi in a structured, progressive curriculum

Beginners may join Chen Tai Chi Level 1 at any time.

Available trial classes:

  • Monday daytime

  • Monday evening

  • Thursday daytime

Cheng Baguazhang

Develop agile footwork, turning power, and adaptable movement.

Cheng Baguazhang is a traditional internal martial art known for circle walking, changing direction, spiraling movement, palm techniques, and continuous footwork.

Beginning students learn foundational stepping, posture, palm positions, body alignment, direction changes, and the introductory movements that prepare them for the Eight Turning Palms.

Cheng Baguazhang may be a good choice for you if you are interested in:

  • Dynamic and meditative movement

  • Improving coordination and mobility

  • Learning sophisticated footwork

  • Developing whole-body power

  • Studying a rare traditional martial art in depth

No previous martial arts experience is necessary.

Available trial classes:

  • Tuesday afternoon

  • Tuesday evening

Shuai Jiao

Learn traditional Chinese wrestling, balance disruption, and fast throwing.

Shuai Jiao is a standing grappling art focused on controlling balance, creating angles, and using efficient throws and takedowns.

The Dragon Phoenix program emphasizes Baoding-style fast wrestling and the principle of touch-and-throw: gaining control and completing the throw before the opponent has time to establish a strong defense.

Beginning students practice safely on mats and learn stance, movement, gripping, balance, falling skills, and introductory throwing principles.

Shuai Jiao may be a good choice for you if you are interested in:

  • Wrestling, grappling, or martial applications

  • Developing functional strength and balance

  • Learning throws and takedowns

  • Training with a partner

  • Exploring a physically active traditional martial art

Beginners are welcome. A Shuai Jiao jacket can be borrowed for your first class, and ordinary workout clothing is appropriate.

Available trial class:

  • Saturday, 4:00–5:30 PM

Not Sure Which Class to Choose?

You do not need to make a permanent decision before your first visit.

Choose the program that currently interests you most. Your trial class will give you a clearer sense of the teaching, training environment, physical demands, and curriculum.

A simple starting point:

  • Choose Chen Tai Chi for grounded, methodical internal training with an emphasis on posture, relaxation, coordination, and traditional form.

  • Choose Cheng Baguazhang for circular movement, agile stepping, turning, and a more dynamic internal martial arts practice.

  • Choose Shuai Jiao for partner training, throws, wrestling skills, and a more athletic class experience

What to Expect at Your First Class

Arrive a Few Minutes Early

Please arrive approximately 10 minutes before class so you have time to meet your instructor, ask questions, and become familiar with the training space.

Wear Comfortable Clothing

Wear ordinary athletic clothing that allows you to move comfortably.

You do not need a uniform for your trial class.

For Shuai Jiao, closer-fitting athletic clothing is helpful, although it is not required. A training jacket may be borrowed for your first visit.

Participate at Your Own Level

You will not be expected to already know the movements or keep up with experienced students.

Your instructor will introduce the foundational material and help you participate at an appropriate level.

Ask Questions

Your first class is an opportunity to learn about the art, the curriculum, and the school.

There is no expectation that you enroll before you understand what you are joining.

A Structured Path for Long-Term Learning

Dragon Phoenix is not a drop-in martial arts fitness program. Our adult curriculum classes are organized as long-term systems of study.

Students begin with foundational exercises and gradually progress into forms, partner training, martial applications, weapons, advanced study, instructor development, and—in some programs—discipleship.

You are not expected to pursue every part of the curriculum.

Begin with the foundations. Continue as far as you choose.
